The Accidental Advocate: How a 2011 Layoff Changed My Life (and Yours!)

Let’s travel back to 2011 for a second. The world was a bit different. The economy was still shaking off the dust of the Great Recession, everyone was obsessed with the royal wedding of Will and Kate, and I was sitting in an office wondering if I should pack my desk into a cardboard box.

Spoiler alert: I had to pack the box.

Getting laid off is one of those life events that feels like a door slamming in your face while you’re still trying to walk through it. It’s jarring, it’s frustrating, and it’s a little bit scary. But looking back from where I stand today, as the CEO of PRbyMeghan, that layoff was actually the universe’s very loud, very clear way of telling me I was in the wrong room.

I didn’t know it then, but April 29, 2011, wasn’t just the start of a new job. It was the birth of a movement. It was the day I became an "accidental advocate" for women’s pleasure, and I haven't looked back since.

The "Aha!" Moment in the Middle of a Recession

When I lost my job, I did what most people do: I panicked for about five minutes, and then I started looking for a way to pay the bills until the "real" jobs came back. I hopped on Craigslist looking for open positions in the non-profit sector, I thought about grad school again and at that point, I thought I'd take anything just to keep my mortgage paid and keep the lights on while the economy recovered.

But then, I went to a party.

Now, I had been "counseling" my friends for years. You know the drill, the glass of wine on a Saturday night where everyone starts talking about their relationships, their bodies, and the things they’re too shy to ask their doctors. College weekends perusing the local adult stores and showing friends how to put condoms on bananas. I realized that I was already the go-to person for intimacy advice in my circle. I was the one people felt comfortable asking, "Is this normal?" or "How do I make this better?"

When I stepped into the world of wellness and intimacy products, I didn't just see a business opportunity. I saw a massive gap in the market. I saw women who were hungry for information but didn't know who to trust. I saw a need for a safe space where we could talk about our bodies without shame, without judgment, and with a whole lot of laughter.

I decided to lean in. And instead of a slow recovery, my business took off like a rocket.

By the Numbers: 15 Years of Empowerment

It’s hard to believe that we are coming up on 15 years since that first leap of faith. In that time, PRbyMeghan has grown from a "let’s see what happens" experiment into a powerhouse in the wellness industry. I’m not usually one to brag, but when I look at the stats, I’m genuinely floored by what we’ve built together:

  • 15,000+ Clients: That’s fifteen thousand women who have trusted me with their questions, their concerns, and their journeys toward better intimacy.
  • Nearly 1,500 Parties: From living rooms to bachelorette bashes, I’ve spent almost 1,500 nights educating and entertaining women across the country.
  • $1.5 Million in Sales: This isn't just about the money; it’s about the fact that women are finally investing in their own happiness and wellness.

Each of those numbers represents a conversation. A breakthrough. A moment where someone realized that their pleasure wasn't just an afterthought, it was a priority. Whether you’ve been with me since 2011 or you’re just finding me today, you are part of a legacy of empowerment.

More Than Just a Party: The Concierge Experience

When people hear "intimacy products," they often think of cheap, plastic novelties or awkward, hush-hush conversations. That is the exact opposite of what we do at PRbyMeghan.

I like to think of myself as your Vaginal Concierge.

What does that mean? It means I provide a curated, high-end experience tailored specifically to you. Whether you are looking for bath and body products that make you feel like a goddess or you have specific questions about strengthening your pelvic floor after childbirth, I am here to guide you.

I don't just sell products; I provide solutions. My goal is to make sure every woman who walks into one of my events (or visits my site) leaves feeling more confident and more informed than when she arrived. You deserve a concierge service because your wellness is a luxury you should be able to afford.

Why Advocacy Matters

Why do I call myself an advocate? Because for too long, women’s sexual health has been sidelined. We are taught to be "good" or "proper," but we aren't often taught how to be fulfilled. We are given plenty of information on how to avoid pregnancy or disease, but very little on how to actually enjoy our bodies.

I want women to feel empowered to take ownership of their pleasure. I want you to feel like you have an advocate you can trust with your "weird" questions, because chances are, they aren't weird at all. I’ve heard it all, and I promise you, there is nothing to be ashamed of.

Whether you're browsing our new products or reading about the history of my brand, know that everything we do is rooted in the belief that your intimacy is a vital part of your overall wellness.
